Dr. Chinnappan Baskar, a synthetic organic chemist, received his M. Sc. Chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT M). He has completed his PhD in Conjugated Polymers from the Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. He joined the faculty in the Department of Chemistry, Lovely Professional University (LPU) as Assistant Professor/Reader. He was the Coordinator/Head of the Department. Dr. Baskar has worked as Director (Academic Affairs), Dev Bhoomi Group of Institutions, Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun, India.
Dr. Baskar has completed one year tenure Brain Korean 21 (BK21) Research Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology, Myongji University, Republic of Korea (South Korea). He has also worked as co-researcher in Energy and Environmental Fusion Technology Center, Myongji University. He was coordinating for the progress of PhD and MS/PhD students' research in the areas of the production of bioenergy, biofuels, biochemicals from biomass, and separation of alcohols using polymeric based membranes. He taught Green chemistry course for PhD and MS/PhD programs.
Dr. Baskar has very good teaching experiences in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Green Chemistry, and Research Methodology Courses for graduate, M. Phil and MS/PhD programs. He has also taught General Chemistry course (Theory & Lab) for undergraduate (Engineering and Biotechnology) programs.
Dr. Baskar has supervised 11 M. Phil students and 11 M. Sc. Regular/Honors Students in the areas of Green Chemical Transformations and Biodiesel. He has published few research papers in reputed chemistry international journals. One of his research papers has been cited 45 times in high impact journals. He was invited to attend and deliver lectures/seminars in international and national conferences & workshops. He was also invited speaker for workshops organized by Department of Science and Technology (DST). Dr. Baskar visited USA, Japan and Canada.
He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Akivoc Journal (USA),Journal of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Journal of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Bioinformation Journal, and Bioethics Forum (Singapore). He also serves on the referee for ChemComm and Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry journals in Royal Society of Chemistry, UK and Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology, Wiley Interscince Journals, UK
Dr Baskar was a member of international advisory committee for Indo-US Science and Technology Forum Workshop on Green Chemistry. He was a Session Chairman of National Conference on Green Chemistry organized by Department of Chemistry, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat, India.
Dr. Baskar was a student advisor for Chemistry Graduate Club, Department of Chemistry, NUS, Singapore. He has served as the Editor of Science Today and NanoScience Today. He was the founding Chief Editor of The Graduate Reminiscences, A Publication of Science Graduate Committee (SGC), Faculty of Science, NUS, Singapore. He was the founding President of Science Graduate Committee, NUS, Singapore.
Dr. Baskar research interests include the synthetic organic chemistry, conducting polymers, and Green Chemistry, production of biofuels and fine chemicals from biomass, and membrane science separation. His research group is currently focusing on green chemical transformations of organic functionalities and preparation of biofuels from biomass using green methodology.
He has been member of Green Chemistry Network Center, New Delhi, affiliated to ACS Green Chemistry Institute, USA, Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, American Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry and Material Research Society, USA.
